Thessaloniki Airport (SKG), officially Makedonia Airport, is the main airport of northern Greece, 13 km (8 miles) southeast of Thessaloniki city centre. Its codes are SKG (IATA) and LGTS (ICAO). It has two connected terminals, T1 and T2, and handled a record 7.98 million passengers in 2025. The cheapest way into the city is OSETH bus 1X at €2.00 in about 40 minutes; a taxi takes roughly 30 minutes.
Makedonia Airport: Your Gateway to Northern Greece
The airport serves Thessaloniki — Greece's second-largest city — and the whole of Macedonia, Halkidiki and the northern Aegean. Older travellers may still know it as Mikra Airport; timetables and booking sites use SKG or Makedonia. It is the third-busiest airport in Greece after Athens and Heraklion, and has been managed by Fraport Greece since 2017, which rebuilt it around a new terminal. In 2025 it handled 7,982,798 passengers — an all-time record, up 8.2% on 2024 and well above its pre-pandemic peak, with summer weekends the busiest period.
